Step 2
Center differential
Building the center differential is the same
for the first part of the rear and front differential..
Take a 6x18 mm bearing and place it on the output of the dif case.
Put an silicone o-ring in the inside of the
dif case and press it flush against the bottom.
Now slide the dif output shaft fully into the
dif case. Make sure to use some grease from the white round box on the red
marked spot.
Make sure the dif output shaft has flat spots around the groove that will
accept the pin of the drive shaft.
Place on of the 6x15 mm washers over the shaft and
press it firmly by hand against the bottom of the dif case.
Now slide a 4 mm pin through the hole at the
side of the dif case and align it with the hole in the dif output shaft.
Center the pin so both side are equal length.
Now place the sun gear over the dif output
shaft and the pin.
Close the hole in the side of the dif case
with 4x4 mm set screw until it is flush with the outside if the dif case.
Put two gears on the 4 mm axle. Then place at
each side a 4x10 mm washer.
Make two of those axles.
Now place those two axles with gears and
washers into the dif case.
Make sure the crossing of the axles is that
both flat spots are against each other and both axles are flat on the same
surface.
Take the crown gear and place a 6x18 mm bearing on
it.
Now slide the dif output shaft fully into the
dif case. Make sure to use some grease from the white round box on the red
marked spot.
Make sure the dif output shaft has flat spots around the groove that will
accept the pin of the drive shaft.
Press a o-ring over the dif output shaft
fully into the hole.
Place two of the 6x15mm washer over the dif
output shaft. The kit comes with an optional extra washer to mesh the play
inside the differential when finished. First build the differential with
two 6x15 mm washers and test if it runs free. If this is not the case remove
one of the two 6x15 mm washers and rebuild the differential.
Slide the pin through the hole of the dif
output shaft and make it centered at both sides.
Place the black gasket on the crown
gear.
Then place the sun gear over the output shaft
and pin and turn the whole gear on top of the dif case and align the holes
of the gear and the dif case.
Fit four 3x12 mm counter sunk self tapping screws
tight them in cross pattern but do not over tight them as this will strip
the thread in the plastic. Now check if the dif runs
freely. If this is not the case remove one of the 6x15 mm washer as
mentioned before.
If the differential not runs freely remove the crown gear.
According to the manual the dif need to be
filled with grease 70%. If you do not have silicone oil fill
it fully with grease from the white round box.
So put some grease on the gears with the tip
of a screw driver if you do not use silicone oil.
Then close the differential again.
But normally we use silicone oil to alter
the working of the differential so we filled it with half with 5.000 Cs.
Check if all differentials are running free
if that is the case now the front, rear and center differential
are ready.
If all three differentials need to be
filled for 70% there is not enough grease with the kit!
