Step 3
Front gearbox and shock stay

02210006.jpg (33359 bytes) Step 3 is the assembly of the front gearbox with the shock stay.
02210007.jpg (31239 bytes) First take one of the gear box halves and place a 8x16 mm bearing in the outside hole.
02210008.jpg (32382 bytes) Press this bearing until it is flush with the outside of the gear box.
02210009.jpg (22566 bytes) Slide a 8x16 mm bearing over the pignon.
02210010.jpg (40512 bytes) Press the pignon and bearing in the inside hole of the gear box until it stops.
02210013.jpg (28644 bytes) Now take 4x4 mm set screw and use some high strength thread lock and secure the drive joint on the pignon.
02210014.jpg (31912 bytes) With the kit come some thin 3x16x0.2 mm shim washers in this picture red marked. Place to start two of them on the opposite side of the crown gear. Slide them over the dif out put until they touch the bearing outer side.
02210015.jpg (28644 bytes) Place as shown in the picture the differential in the dif box. Take care that the shim washers are not deformed when the complete differential is placed. The shim washers are there to make the correct meshing between the crown gear and the pignon. When the gear box is completed check by turning the pignon is all runs smooth without play. If this is the case you do not need any extra washers. When there is to much play remove a shim washer and place it on the side of the crown gear. If there no play place an extra shim washer on the opposite side of the crown gear. In some cases three washers are needed. One at one side and two at the other. Mesh the gears well to be sure of no extra wear.
02210017.jpg (27934 bytes) Put the other half of the gear box on. Also take care not to deform the shim washers.
02210021.jpg (37322 bytes) For the front gear box we need these parts.
02210022.jpg (32560 bytes) First mount the lower aluminum hinge pin holder and fix it with 4x45 mm self tapping round head screws they are red marked.
Also place the 4x15 mm self tapping round head screws in the top they are green marked.
02210025.jpg (33280 bytes) Place the plastic upper and and lower hinge pin holder on the other side with 4x16 mm counter sunk self tapping screws on the red marked spots.
02210027.jpg (31651 bytes) The front shock stay needs these parts.
02210028.jpg (37091 bytes) First mount 4 mm lock nuts in the holes.
02210030.jpg (39193 bytes) Now place the shock stay and secure it with 4x15 mm round head screws on the red marked spot. 3x12 mm round head self tapping screws on the green marked spots. And 3x12 mm round head self tapping screws at the blue marked spots.
Check the free running of the pignon and crown gears mentioned before.
Also put some grease on these two gears!
Some screws sizes differ from the manual, take care of that!
The pignon crown gear make some noise that looks like the teeth are not corresponding. If this will affect the performance and durability we have see.
