Test and Reviews X2-CRT PRO

This is the building process of a Hong Nor X2-CRT PRO with all pro's and con's found.

Verdict

When a few years back the truggy scene was born no one could have expected this class to grow as it is now.

Hong Nor made the first real competition truggy and their second one called the X2 is a large upgrade although it does not look like it that way at a glance.
Major changes are done in the drive train to lower the gear ratio and to make is more lightweight overall.
Other changes like the fuel tank and its fuel line clips are leading this newly redesigned car into a new era.

This is the second Stadium Race Truck "Truggy" we build produced by Hong Nor.
Quality on parts and finishing of this X1-CRT PRO are perfect except the fuel tank that did not fit without  a little rework. (taken care of by the factory as this was only in preproduction models)
The car went together flawlessly and no real problems were found.
The patented C-hub T-shape bolts are unique and also used in this car and make maintenance and durability on these parts a breeze.
Only upgrade we would advise is for high jumps tracks are the aluminum chassis braces XTS-14.
The box clearly states which performance parts are included.
All the steel has a high carbon contents and is heat treated and then the case is hardened.
The aluminum is CNC machined from T6-7075 grade if stated on the box and the rest is heat treated T6-6061.
Everything is then hard grey coated for durability.
The USA produced nylon plastic molded materials are nicely finished and look to be strong enough for current race standards.
The standard threaded bolt nut hinge pins in this kit ensure no lost E-clips.
The fitting of the parts in general is good. No need for extra tools like drill bits or files to get the parts fitted.
Tolerance and clearance is 100% OK.
The English/Japanese manual is crisp and clear.
This manual is OK for novice and experienced drivers.
Concerning packaging of the parts in combination with the manual we had some issues we would have liked to be changed by Hong Nor.
Not each bag refers to a step in the manual.
So some parts need to be collected from bags that are not yet needed for the particular step of building so more bags are open at one time.
We had the same with the X1-CR PRO buggy and X1-CRT PRO truggy!
The car does not comes with radio gear and engine.
Header and an inline EFRA 2027 engraved muffler were included in our kit.
A large step up in performance will be the new standard larger "X" LPR tyres fit on LPR disk rims with 17 mm wheel adapter and are equipped with pre drilled air holes.
These upgrade the cars performance dramatically.
This Hong Nor X2-CRT PRO comes with three normal composite open gear differentials and are of high quality design.
All drive outputs are O-ring sealed and to be used with silicone oil.
Quality and the fitting of the differentials is excellent!
And now they even have the lightweight diff outputs and light weight cross pins.
For the differentials there are 3bottles of silicone oil of 10.000 -75.000 - 5.000 cSt supplied with this kit and are nicely mentioned in the set up sheet.
The shock oils have a 60-50 value.
Instead of normal nylon clutch shoes this kit comes with Silver low wear aluminum ones.
It has become a standard in off-road.
The 3 pin scissor spring style clutch has regular 2.5 mm pins.
Standard with the car come GOLD 1.1 mm thick springs and are designed for these aluminum clutch shoes.

The very low CG 150 cc fuel tank has a bronze filter build in and a molded splash guard.
The fuel line clips are a perfect upgrade of the previous fuel tank.
A large aluminum fuel filter comes standard.

The center differential mounts are decomposable and are made of plastic and come standard.
Two Epoxy fiber brake disks are stopped by steel calipers.
Epoxy is used to prevent brake fading.
They will provide enough stopping power even with servo's rated above 50 Nm of torque.
The CNC machined T6-7075 steering knuckles have the patented T-shape bolt nut construction that will make maintenance and durability easier and better for this C-hub style design front suspension.
Also the lower A block hinge pin holder in the front is now made out of CNC machined T6-7075
A newly design TRUCK body is not precut!
The body has a spray film cover at the outside and window masks standard.
All the holes including the mounting and antenna hole are already drilled
The large radio box has not been changed and has two lids hold by small body clips one for the receiver battery and one for the receiver.
Comes standard with foam inserts at the bottom.
Only hump battery packs fit!
The antenna out put has a aluminum nut that clamps the antenna tube snugly on to the radio box.
Carbon fiber parts like the radio tray, the center differential top plate and servo saver top plate are nicely machined.
But do not forget to put some cyano acrylic glue around the edges to prevent carbon splitters.
The chassis is from T6-7075 hi-grade aluminum and is grey colored hard coated just like all other aluminum parts.
Milled out on certain places to get the weight down.
The chassis is longer then the buggy version!
The bottom of the chassis is nicely counter sunk for all screws.
All drive axles are of the universal type and  made of spring steel so no CVD's to be found in this car!
Some drivers prefer these universal drive shafts over CVD's

JWhat are the pro's? J

* Patented T-shape bolt/nut C-Hub design

* T6-7075 hard coated anodized aluminum used for chassis, shock towers and other aluminum parts
* T6-7075 "A" Block
* Air filter with correct air filter connector
* Decomposable center differential mounts
* Aluminum clutch shoes with 1.1 mm springs
* 16 mm diameter shock bodies with 3.5 mm shock shafts
* Large radio box to accommodate normal size receivers and 5 AA size receiver batteries
* Radio box foam inserts
* Carbon parts
* Fuel tank with built in fuel line clips and build in splash guard
* Antenna clamping nut

LWhat are the bad moves? L

* The packaging of the bags with the parts referring to the manual
* No air filter oil

The unlimited truck class has grown to a class on its own and the end is not yet in sight. With this X2 version Hong Nor only took the parts that could be refined after using the X1X version for a long time. Why change what is good from the beginning? Building quality is on par or beyond with all other so called major brands. For normal use the PRO version will do fine at every track only hop up we advise is to use the aluminum chassis braces on track with large USA style jumps. Only small jump tracks the plastic braces will do the jobs with ease allowing a little more side flex. With now all major brands having their own truggy in their program the new X2 is on par or even better concerning handling and longetivity.
The car can also be used for back yard bashing where they will like the strong ness of the car.
During the coming years we believe Hong Nor will not sit still and become a larger contender in the race (in case they are not yet felt by others to be) and back yard bashers scene.
If you are in doubt what to buy give this brand and car a change. You will not be disappointed. If we were, we would have told you so!
