STEP 25

12010009.jpg (45947 bytes) The extra steps that are not in the manual are 25 and higher!
There is nothing mentioned about painting the body. So gather the stuff shown to make some stylish art work. Special lexan paint applied by brushes or spray cans or air brushes can be used. We opted for brushing and spraycans. I used Parma water based lexan paint and acrylic based spraycans with white and yellow colors.
12010013.jpg (41096 bytes) First take some very fine water proof sanding paper and rough the inside of the body except for the windows! Then clean the body inside with warm water and soap and dry it with throw away paper towls only. Then apply masking tape on the the areas that should become clear and act as windows.
12010032.jpg (35974 bytes) When using brush paint only, there is no need for covering the outside. When using spray cans or airbrush cover the outside with transparent household foil and wrap it around the body.
The picture shows some parts of the body already done with paint and regular brush.
Always apply the darkest color first. In this case it was first black and then red.
12010034.jpg (37187 bytes) Spray (in this case with yellow first) the required inside part of the body with some thin layers. Try to apply each layer when the other is still a little wet when the same color is used. Always spray (use) dark colors first then the lighter ones.
12020002.jpg (35151 bytes) Always finish the inside always with some thin layers of fuel proof white or silver color. This gives the other colors a brighter appearance. The water based paints are not water and fuel proof and always need a protective cover up layer!
12020005.jpg (39638 bytes) When you are ready with painting take of the protective foil.
12020010.jpg (49756 bytes) Take off all remaining masking tape at the inside and then this is what you get.
12020014.jpg (44029 bytes) Apply the decals that come with the kit or use your own favorite decals.
12020024.jpg (46398 bytes) Now we have to cut the body to fit the chassis. First drill the hole for the front body post with an 6 m/m drill. Drill) the hole for the rear body post 5 m/m more to the rear, as the original point is a little to far to the front. I use a lexan scissor for the large cutting and a high speed DREMEL tool for the more finer ones and tight corners. The lines to be cut are pressed in the body except for the fuel tank!
12020027.jpg (38544 bytes) The result after the cutting. Make sure the body fits with out pressing on the body posts. The air filter is a little large and moves the body form the center.
12090009.jpg (43974 bytes) Cut around the muffler exit a larger area so the body can not touch the exit.
Also the overlapping parts at the side skirts can be cut to a 2 m/m overhang when the body is in a good position.
12090011.jpg (63108 bytes) Make a hole for the tank lid to be opened.
12090019.jpg (37986 bytes) Do the same for the cooling head. Now the body is ready to be placed on the chassis.
12090014.jpg (64787 bytes) Put a zip tie on the front of the fuel tank lid and strap it. Slide a piece of fuel tubing over the zip tie.
12090016.jpg (77731 bytes) Then place a servo horn that you never use and secure it with the end of a zip tie.
This way you can easily open your tank when refueling is needed.
12090023.jpg (43883 bytes) The body placed and viewed from the left side, ready and mounted on the chassis secured with body clips.
12090024.jpg (46618 bytes) The body placed and viewed from the right side, ready and mounted on the chassis secured with body clips.
Ashame that there is nothing mentioned in the manual about the body!!
